…he was made the head of the choir unit.
Omar was almost like a complete package. He was plum and a little around five feet seven. His chocolate skin, handsome face, heavy beards and above all, his beautiful voice and piano skills endeared him to a lot of girls in the choir. Of course, he had his fill from girls who wouldn’t withhold but only one had his heart. Her name is Sarah. Sarah got pregnant for Omar in no time because their love really blossomed. However, he was oblivious of the fact that the bishop was screwing her alongside codedly. So, when the news of the pregnancy broke, the only thing she relied on to be sure it was Omar’s was the distance she had kept from the bishop for a short while.
‘…Mummy Yo’, the bishop says into the receiver. ‘We need to be at the hospital right away before he is moved’.
‘Sure honey’, she replies.
At his bed side, they see Sarah and others weep uncontrollably…the usual thing people do when they lose their loved ones but Sarah’s isn’t the usual, it’s the dashing of the hope she thought she had with Omar, at least for the first time she had ever loved in her entire existence. Daddy Yo moves close, places his hand on her shoulder and mutters ‘It is well my dear’. ‘Yes it is’, Mummy Yo chips in with a broken voice.
‘I will miss him a lot’, she ends rather unconsciously.
‘Sorry?’ he inquires, hoping for clarity but none came his way.
Shortly afterwards, her mind dwells on her brief sexual escapade with Omar on the table in her spacious office, located somewhere in the east wing of the church auditorium few days before her trip to Ikene. Omar had walked into her spacious office to seek counsel on his struggles and probably be bold to talk about his errors with some girls in the church and…
‘Honey’, Daddy Yo calls out as she jostles out of her thoughts, ‘did you hear that?’
‘The doctor says he died of a powerful killer poison’.
‘How’, she yelled, facing Sarah.
‘He fell sick two days after the love feast we had in church’, Sarah started.
‘Someone gave me a drink to give to him as the head of the choir unit…’, she sobbed louder.
‘But I can’t remember or recognize the person’, she ended.
‘Holy Jesus!’ Mummy Yo yells as she breaks down.
